Showcasing Gov 2.0
Last week the Australian Gov 2.0 Showcase site was launched. This is a valuable initiative allowing people from all tiers of Australian government to submit examples of how they are using web 2.0 tools to engage with citizens and deliver better services. A great thing about the site is that it uses a web 2.0 approach, by which people submit their own entries, to build a showcase of Australia’s progress and achievements in Gov 2.0. The Showcase will provide a forum for the sharing of ideas and lessons so that teams within government can learn from each other in their implementation of Gov 2.0 initiatives.

CeBIT eGovernment forum
For the last few years AGIMO has been an event partner in the CeBIT eGovernment forum event, which is being held on Tuesday 25 May 2010 Darling Harbour Exhibition and Convention Centre in Sydney. This year, perhaps unsurprisingly after the Government responded to the Government 2.0 Taskforce, the event has a strong Government 2.0 focus.
Speakers will include Lindsay Tanner, Minister for Finance and Deregulation, and several former members of the Taskforce (and I’ll be there on one of the panels as well). There should be a lot of interesting discussion and ideas thrown around. See the forum program for the complete list of speakers and panels. Read more

Crowd-sourced labels, names and IA via external folksonomies
We wanted to investigate the possibilities of attaching tags or folksonomies to our content. Our original Content Management System (CMS) didn’t have the ability to support internal tagging, so we decided to investigate options for externally-sourced tags. During some of our early tinkering, we explored what would be required to support a variety of ways to get tagging of content.

The Australian Gov 2.0 Showcase
We have set up a Gov 2.0 Showcase to collate and create a gallery of Australian Government innovation in the Gov 2.0 space. The showcase and gallery will provide a space to demonstrate Australia’s Gov 2.0 achievements and be a source of education and learning. Once a few submissions are made to the showcase we will publish a gallery of case study videos and images which you can click on to get the full details of each case study. Read more

Consultation Draft RFT: TOMS
I’m Mundi Tomlinson and I am the AGIMO acting branch head responsible for the procurement of a range of whole of government IT services including desktop hardware, software licences and telecommunications. We’ve recently gone to the market for telecommunications invoice reconciliation services, mobile phones and the associated carriage, and internet based network connections. Steve Davies, public servant and founder of OzLoop, has sent us a presentation he put together as an example of a user guide for this blog.
We’re thrilled with the presentation, both as a guide and as an example of the level of interest and engagement in this blog so far. Using crowdsourcing to harness the enthusiasm and ideas of the community is definitely something we want to get into with this blog, and we think Steve’s contribution is an important step in that direction. Dr Nicholas Gruen was chair of the Government 2.0 Taskforce.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, that’s about it from us. We laboured hard, but less long than some similar exercises and came up with a report of which I think we were all proud. Now, at least if I can speak for myself, I think the government response has shown that it was worthwhile. Very significant progress has been made in the government’s response to our report.
Though I must confess as an outsider, it seemed just plain commonsense, when we started the Taskforce almost no government documents had been licensed ‘creative commons’ (CC). Now the government has accepted our recommendation that CC be the default, and indeed that the default be one of the most permissive licences CC-BY which allows complete freedom to reproduce, and remix subject only to the acknowledgement of the original source. Response to the Government 2.0 Report
Today I am pleased to announce the next step in the Rudd Government’s agenda to utilise Web 2.0 technologies to deliver better services to, and facilitate greater engagement with, Australians by releasing our response to the Government 2.0 Taskforce report.
The Taskforce’s report recommended changes to a range of areas, including co-ordinated leadership, guidance, support and recognition for agencies and public servants engaging online, and the important considerations of accessibility and security. Read more

Welcome to the AGIMO blog. I’m Ann Steward, the Australian Government’s Chief Information Officer. In this role I am also the Deputy Secretary of the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO), a group within the Department of Finance and Deregulation.
We’re launching a whole-of-AGIMO blog and have absorbed previous ones.
