HTML5 and Accessibility

The Australian Government ICT Entry-level Programs are a key pathway for people interested in an ICT career to join the Australian Government workforce. For six years now they have provided a great opportunity for participants to gain ICT skills and qualifications while working in an Australian Government agency as an ICT apprentice or cadet. Online applications for the 2012 program will open on 21 July 2011 and remain open for three weeks. Read more

Panel for provision of telecommunications management now in place

Australian Government agencies can now access telecommunications management advice, services and support through a new whole-of-government panel.

The Telecommunications Management Panel facilitates access to service providers that can help agencies:

  • Design new telecommunications solutions;
  • Manage mobile phone fleets;
  • Manage telecommunication services contracts;
  • Improve billing and inventory management;
  • Procure telecommunications help desk support; and
  • Source specialist telecommunication management advice to complement internal resources.

Government 2.0 Register

At the previous meeting of the Government 2.0 Steering Group, one of the points of discussion involved creating a more effective register of Australian Government Gov 2.0 activity. Such a register could include agency use of social media or other Web 2.0 tools, greater release of data online, or other innovative uses of online technology to support greater government engagement and transparency. Winners for 2011 Australian Government ICT Awards

I am delighted to congratulate the Award winners of this year’s Australian Government ICT Awards – these Awards include the Excellence in eGovernment Awards, ICT Professional of the Year Award and Government 2.0 (Gov 2.0) Innovator Award.

The Award winners were presented with their Awards at the CeBIT Australia ICT Celebration Dinner last night in Sydney. I’d like to thank Senator Kate Lundy for standing in for me and presenting the awards.

The National Library of Australia’s project Trove won the 2011 Excellence in eGovernment Award, as well as the Service Delivery Category Award.  The Trove search engine shows how Government is harnessing digital technology to improve service delivery, linking Australians to millions of resources available online, and in Australian libraries, cultural institution and research collections.
