World Telecommunications and Information Society Day
I am pleased to announce that today is World Telecommunications and Information Society Day. Across the world, World Telecommunications and Information Society Day is celebrated in many different ways to raise awareness of societal changes brought about by the Internet and new technologies, as well as to help reduce the ‘digital divide’.
The theme for World Telecommunications and Information Society Day 2012 is Women and Girls in ICT. Relevant government ministries and agencies around the world are encouraged to prioritise the implementation of policies that develop talent and the skills necessary to build a vibrant and diversified ICT sector. These policies should engage women and girls at all levels to fully utilise and promote the full breadth of talent in the country. In Australia, we will be marking the day by raising awareness and celebrating the contribution women in ICT have made in the Australian Government. Read more

Pilot WITEM Coaching Circles 2012 launch
Tonight I attended a launch for the exciting new Pilot Women in IT Executive Mentoring (WITEM) Coaching Circles 2012 program.
Since 2007, AGIMO has partnered with Dell to deliver WITEM programs within the Australian Public Service (APS). The Pilot WITEM Coaching Circles program, for our Executive Level 1 leaders, is closely linked to the existing WITEM Executive Level 2 program and is the sixth WITEM-related program to be held in Canberra for the Australian Government. Congratulations 2010 APS ICT Cadet Paul Du
The ICT Skills Team would like to congratulate one of our 2010 APS ICT Cadets from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations Paul Du on his success in the 2011 Imagine Cup competition. Paul and his team have won the Australian Finals and will now compete in the World Cup Finals in New York in July.
The team’s entry is a program called the ‘Brain Speller.’ The program will assist people with decreased physical functions communicate with others by converting electronic thought signals into text. Read more

APS ICT Entry Level Programs Graduation
For the past four years, the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) has managed the APS ICT Entry Level Programs, recruiting ICT apprentices and cadets into a number of Australian Government agencies.
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the APS ICT Entry Level Programs Graduation Ceremony. It was a wonderful celebration of the achievements of 35 apprentices and cadets from 12 Government agencies who have now completed their academic qualifications while concurrently working in the APS.
